In Finnish In Russian
The language of instruction is mainly Finnish. The teacher may use some other language if necessary. If the language of instruction is clearly some other language than Finnish, it is mentioned in the name of the course or in course description.
The Finnish Adult Education Centre of the City of Helsinki offers Finnish instruction ranging from beginners’ courses to courses for advanced students. Dozens of courses at different levels are held in various locations in Helsinki. The courses start at the beginning of term, either in mid-September or in mid-January.
Courses designed for immigrants are also offered in the following topics: information technology, home economics, crafts, art, music and foreign languages. In addition, the Adult Education Centre holds lectures in English and Russian on Finnish culture, society and history.
Course fees
The course fee depends on the duration of the course. Courses normally consist of 60 lessons; the fee for such courses is 36.10 euro. Further information on the fees can be obtained from the course-specific information sections. Students who are receiving unemployment benefit or income support are entitled to a 50% discount upon proof of the latest payment. To claim this discount, the student must visit one of the offices of the Adult Education Centre.
Training vouchers (”opintoseteli”) – courses for free
Studying on some basic courses of Finnish language and information technology is supported with training vouchers, provided by The Finnish National Board of Education. In Finnish language studies also elderly or illiterate immigrants are supported with vouchers. The courses, the name of which is followed by the word ”Opintoseteli”, are free of charge. To these courses you can register normally: to Finnish language courses starting with 7th of December and to IT courses starting with 8th of December. All the participants of these courses sign a form concerning the voucher courses. Note: Registration to these courses is also binding! See the cancellation fee.
