| Pupil and student welfare services support the well-being of learners. Pupil and student welfare services are statutory services provided by pupil/student welfare teams, school welfare officers, school psychologists and special needs assistants. Pupil and student well-being also includes school health care and school catering as well as afternoon care. In addition, Helsinki schoolchildren also have the opportunity to enjoy recreational summer activities if they wish to do so. Comprehensive school pupils have the opportunity to receive a subsidy towards their travel to school. All pupils are insured for both schoolwork and travel. Students at upper secondary schools and vocational institutions can apply for different social benefits, such as student financial aid or student flats.
