The summer streets event stage is a free outdoor space for organising different events. The stage will be set up on the Design Museum Square at Korkeavuorenkatu. The event stage is part of the ‘summer streets’ pilot project in the heart of Helsinki. The aim of the summer streets is to make the streets more pleasant and attractive and to improve the variety of services.

Welcome to the Summer Streets Stage Dances!

The Summer Streets Stage Dances are a shared dance event that features music of any and all styles. Street Stage Dances are a part of the Summer Streets Event Stage concept. These events will take place four times this summer, on every second Saturday of each month at 3–6 pm. The events are open to all and free of charge. This event is held in cooperation with the City of Helsinki and Lauri Jäntti.

Street Stage Dances are based on free improvisation, which means that the only guiding principles are paying attention, respecting boundaries, and common courtesy towards all participants. In this context, every style and manner of participation and move is correct: nothing is too much or too little. You can dance alone or with a partner, or any other ensemble that could change at any time. You do not need any prior dancing experience or skills, nor does anyone assume otherwise. Just as well, you could enjoy the event atmosphere simply by just watching other people dance, instead of dancing yourself.

After entering the shared space and getting in the mood, the event will proceed naturally. The styles of music cover a wide range of styles, from Argentinian tango to blues, from salsa to opera, and from humppa to evergreen musical hits – and so much more.
