Rehabilitating day activities are intended for people seeking support for a substance-free life. It offers free, substance-free activities that support the customer in changing his or her life style.

The meeting places of rehabilitating day activities provide activities and peer support for people that seek support for their substance-free life. The operations are open to all, and their purpose is to support the customers in changing their life, by offering a substance-free everyday life as a member of a community. Participation in the activities is voluntary and does not require a commitment. However, participation does require situation-specific sobriety. The activities are anonymous, but day activities can also be part of a planned substance abuse rehabilitation, if so agreed.

The purpose of the operations is to support the everyday life of the customer and encourage him or her in a substance-free life style. A customer of the rehabilitating day activities has the opportunity to create a regular daily rhythm and to practise social interactions and life skills in a community. Rehabilitating day activities can be utilised as a follow-up treatment of non-institutional and institutional detoxification services or other substance abuse treatment or as a part of them.

The meeting places offering rehabilitating day activities also organise various groups, excursions and events. At the meeting places, the customer may read the day's papers, drink a cup of coffee and use computers. When necessary, the employees can offer support, counselling and guidance.

The operational principles of rehabilitating day activities are peer support, community, functionality and free will. The customers participate in planning the operations. The workers in the units of rehabilitating day activities may include counsellors, practical nurses, social workers and occupational therapists.

You can apply for the services by visiting the day activity centres or via your substance abuse worker or other party providing help.

The services are free of charge for the customers.

Participation requires situation-specific sobriety.

The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.
