The City of Helsinki strongly condemns the war instigated by Russia in Ukraine and stands shoulder to shoulder with the European Union in support of the Ukrainian people. Recent events have triggered the provisions of the EU’s Temporary Protection Directive for the first time, obliging the EU Member States to offer quick and effective assistance to people fleeing the war in Ukraine. Helsinki is supporting the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine with financial assistance and by offering the people fleeing the war support and assistance through its social and health services.
There is no threat to Finland or Helsinki. The war in Ukraine and the shocking news and social media updates from the conflict have nevertheless caused widespread anxiety and concern. Due to the resulting need for information and desire to help, the City of Helsinki is reporting on the situation for the benefit of its residents and for people arriving in Helsinki from Ukraine.
