After-school activities at playgrounds in accordance with the Basic Education Act
After-school activities are intended for pupils in first grade, second grade and in special needs education. The activities are organised in accordance with the National Core Curriculum for Morning and Afternoon Activities of the Finnish National Agency for Education and the action plan for the morning and after-school activities of the city. In addition to playgrounds, activities are organised at schools and other suitable premises near schools.
After-school activities can be applied for each year during the application period. The children are selected for after-school activities for one school year at a time and are charged a fixed monthly fee: EUR 100/month for activities ending at 16:00 and EUR 120/month for activities ending at 17:00. It is possible to apply for a reduction on the client fee.

Application instructions for the school year 2022–2023
1. After-school activities can be applied for on 21 March–22 April 2022. The application form for the academic year 2022–2023 will be published on this page in March 2022. The application cannot be submitted before the application period starts. If you are applying after the end of the application period, see point 7. 2. This form is to be completed online. A guardian whose online banking credentials have been used for authentication and filling in the form is considered to be the guardian paying the invoice. 3. Fill in the form carefully. If the form is missing mandatory information, it cannot be submitted. 4. When submitting the form, you will be asked to identify yourself with online banking credentials, Mobile ID or an identity card with a chip. Identification acts as your online signature on the form.
The form can also be printed and sent to Education Division, After-school activities, P.O. Box 51300, 00099 City of Helsinki or delivered to the letterbox at Töysänkatu 2 D, 00510 Helsinki. The printable form for the school year 2022–2023 will be published on this page in March 2022.
5. The decision will be sent to the guardians by 1 July 2022. 6. After-school activities start on the first day of the school year and continue until the end of the school year. 7. After the application period, applications should be submitted in accordance with the instructions on this page or sent to Education Division, Afternoon activities, P.O. Box 51300, 00099 City of Helsinki.
Some playgrounds to organise free activities for schoolchildren in the school year 2022–2023
Activities for schoolchildren will still be organised in the afternoons after the school day in some playgrounds in the school year 2022–2023. The activities are free-of-charge, and their content is intended for children in primary school.
The application period for schoolchildren’s playground activities is 21 March–22 April 2022. You can also register for the activities mid-season. In the school year 2022–2023, the following playgrounds will still organise schoolchildren’s playground activities: Filpus, Hilleri, Intia, Kimmo, Kipinäpuisto, Kurranummi, Lahnalahti, Laurinniitty, Lehdokki, Linja, Linnunrata, Maasälpä, Mellunmäki, Munkki, Mustakivi, Mäkitorppa, Nuoli, Nurkka, Rudolf, Ruoholahti, Salpausselkä, Sanna, Santahamina, Tapuli, Tuorinniemi, Traktori, Trumpetti, Torpparinmäki, Ulvila and Viiri.
