Research and statistics

The Transport and Traffic Planning Division monitors the development of traffic in Helsinki. The division calculates vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic numbers annually to be utilised in planning.  

The development of traffic safety is monitored with the help of statistics and by analysing traffic accidents recorded in the police accident register. The causes, background and places of accidents as well as other factors contributing to accidents are monitored to reduce accidents. The information is utilised in the preparation of traffic plans.
