Family care in a foster family is provided for an indefinite period and can extend to the foster child’s legal age. The goal of family care is to provide a child or young person with personal care, long-term human relationships and a safe home. During foster care, the child or young person is entitled to stay in touch with people close to them, and the foster homes cooperate with the child’s or young person’s birth parents and various authorities.
