Finnish language support in vocational education and training

You can improve your Finnish language skills while learning a profession at Helsinki Vocational Adult Institute (Stadin aikuisopisto).

You can undertake
- Finnish as a Second Language (S2) -supported preparatory training for a competence-based qualification (S2-tuettu näyttötutkintoon valmistava koulutus)
- S2-orientation training (S2-orientoiva koulutus)
- in preparatory training for a competence-based qualification (näyttötutkintoon valmistava koulutus) together with Finnish-speaking students.

In S2-supported training, students learn a profession and professional Finnish. This training is suitable for you if your mother language is not Finnish and you need more Finnish studies.

In S2-orientation training, students will learn professional Finnish and some vocational skills during their first year. This training is suitable for you if your language skills are not yet sufficient for vocational studies. The aim is that your Finnish language skills improve during the orientation period. After that, your studies continue in preparatory training for a competence-based qualification.

You can also get Finnish language support if you are undertaking preparatory training for a competence-based qualification together with Finnish-speaking students.

Completing the competence-based qualification costs 58 euros. Otherwise, the training is free of charge. Students must usually buy their own work clothes and equipment. You can apply for training on the Helsinki Vocational Adult Institute website.
