Recovery grants for arts and culture in autumn 2021

The Culture and Leisure Division is announcing the start of an application period for fixed-term grants, whose aim is to restore operational volumes to the pre-pandemic level and reduce the direct and indirect adverse effects of the pandemic. A total of €2.12 million will be awarded as grants to operators in the arts and culture sector to mitigate harm caused by the coronavirus. These grants will be part of the entire pool of grants of the Culture and Leisure Division, worth €3.5 million in total. Grants will be allocated in a way that promotes the recovery of the culture and arts sector and events, as well as hobbies organised for children and young people, as part of a pandemic recovery scheme.

The aim of the cultural grants is to help the sector reinitiate its operations and protect its diverse ecosystem. Cultural operators may apply for a grant for projects that promote employment and operators’ wellbeing. When it comes to providers of basic education in the arts, those whose art forms have suffered the most from the pandemic will take priority. Assessment criteria specifically determined for this separate application round will be used to compare the grant applications. Therefore, a grant may be awarded to a project that aims to improve wellbeing in a work community or that involves other activities not open to the public.

The application assessment team will consider whether an applicant is a professional operator and what their role is in the field of culture, how the operator intends to use the grant, what the grant’s impact would be on the employment figures and whether the applicant requires a recovery grant. In addition to that, applicants excluded from the state funding system will be prioritised. Providers of basic education in the arts must have an appropriate basic curriculum in place. The grants awarded can be used until 31 December 2022.
