FROM HORSES TO HAMSTERS
Animal Welfare Then and Now
The Helsinki Humane Society, a pioneer of animal welfare in Finland, celebrates its 140th anniversary by staging an exhibition of its history: With Helsinki growing into the metropolis that it is today, the organisation’s role has evolved from helping worn-out horses to rescuing homeless pets. The exhibition will be accompanied by lectures featuring animal welfare experts and enthusiasts.

DANCING AND DRUDGERY BY THE MARKET SQUARE
The celebrated doll installations of the Doll Artists of Finland Society will be on show in Helsinki for the first time! The Castle Ball installation mimics the Presidential Independence Day reception with ladies in dazzling gowns and men in tails socialising under sparkling chandeliers. The installation of an early 20th century Helsinki Baltic Herring Fair shows maids with scarves on their heads buying goods from fishermen’s boats while the gentlefolk pose in their stylish attire at the oldest continuing event in the city.
