Comprehensive school Merilahden peruskoulu to transition into exceptional teaching arrangements

Based on the Basic Education Act and after discussing the matter with the school principal and the epidemiological activities unit, Head of Education Division, Liisa Pohjolainen decided that Merilahden peruskoulu comprehensive school will transition into exceptional teaching arrangements. The exceptional teaching arrangements affect pupils in grades 4 and in grades 7–9. The arrangements will take place 1–5 March 2021.

There have been 14 cases of confirmed coronavirus infections and several exposures among the pupils and teachers of Merilahden peruskoulu. There are approximately 830 pupils in the school, of which 340 will now transition into distance learning.

The decision to start the exceptional teaching arrangements aims at securing safe teaching for everybody. The municipal schools have been revising the use of different digital platforms and preparations for transitioning into distance learning have been made. The school will send all guardian more detailed guidelines via Wilma.

Pupils in other grades, in special needs classes and in preparatory education classes will continue in contact teaching. Pupils in distance learning can have lunch at the school according to a staggered lunchtime schedule. Pupils in quarantine will receive lunch packages.
