There is a lot to see, experience and do in Helsinki during the autumn holiday, because the City will be arranging activities for school children and their parents between 12.–16.10.2020. Activities will be available throughout the city – from garden orienteering around Vuosaari House to a literary workshop about the Moomins and silent films in Oodi! Events will be held in museums, cultural centres, libraries, youth centres and sports facilities.
Events will also be available at youth centres: options include cooking, playing games, dancing, creating choreographies and watching movies. In addition to this, various tournaments, mask workshops, skate clubs, trips and many other types of activity will be available.
Autumn holiday on animal island
During the autumn holiday 10.–18.10.2020, you can visit Korkeasaari Zoo to enjoy the outdoors, learn about animals on guided tours and adventure on your own to see how the approaching winter is affecting the animals. Korkeasaari Zoo will be open 10:00–18:00 for the autumn holiday week — admission is open until 17:00.
Ski in Kivikko, skate in Kontula or swim at a swimming hall
Helsinki rarely has a snow cover for the autumn holiday, but the City is providing people with skiing opportunities remarkably early this autumn as Kivikko Skiing Hall (Savikiekontie 4) opened its doors to skiers on Monday 5 October. In addition to this, it is always a good option to visit one of Helsinki’s swimming halls. Have you tested Kontula’s new skatepark yet?
Garden orienteering at cultural centres and Africa-themed activities at Stoa
Are you about to begin your autumn holiday without any plans? The Culture and Leisure Division will be organising garden orienteering for children and families at cultural centres. You can take part in either guided or independent orienteering by picking up the requisite maps and scorecards from the centres involved. Independent orientation will be available through the entire autumn holiday week (week 42). You can also print out the maps and scorecards from our website. The material will be released at the end of week 41. Easysport (in Finnish)
