Helsinki employees to receive packages of cloth face masks for commuting

The coronavirus coordination group of Helsinki has decided that the City shall provide all of its employees with cloth face masks for commuting between home and the workplace. With the cloth face masks distributed for commuting, Helsinki wishes to support safe commuting in the spreading phase of the epidemic.

The City has reserved cloth face mask packages for all permanent employees and for longer-term substitutes – in total for about 36,000 persons employed by the Divisions and the municipally owned companies. Everyone will receive one mask package containing four washable cloth masks.

Mask distribution will be started as soon as possible. Those working currently on-site will receive their mask packages first. Remote workers will receive them when visiting their workplace.

The City of Helsinki will also provide its personnel with single-use face masks to be used in carrying out daily tasks and when travelling during the workday. Until now, each employee has been individually responsible for purchasing face masks for commuting.
