Helsinki Day is celebrated on 12 June and rhubarb pie has for years been a part of the festive tradition for many Helsinki residents.

Entire City, from day-cares to nursing homes, enjoys rhubarb pie on Helsinki Day

On Helsinki Day 12 June, the city residents will once again savour the traditional treat of the celebration, rhubarb pie. More than 30,000 portions of rhubarb pie will be served to the residents of Helsinki in day-care centres, resident and patient catering and health-care staff restaurants. This year, the City wants to pay special attention to the city residents living in nursing homes and deliver pie to all the residents of the nursing homes.

- Rhubarb pie is a fine early summer product, which we have served on the Helsinki celebration for more than 20 years. What could be better than celebrating our home town by enjoying a delicacy together! Our production facility will prepare almost 2,000 kilos of rhubarb pie for the city residents to enjoy, says Mikael Neuvonen, Head of Development Services at Service Centre Helsinki.

Helsinki Day is celebrated on 12 June and rhubarb pie has for years been a part of the festive tradition for many Helsinki residents. Once chosen as the Helsinki Day pastry due to the early harvest season of rhubarb, the product has been a tradition favoured by the Helsinki residents since the beginning.
