Being tested in Helsinki is easy and fast. If you have even minor symptoms of coronavirus, we recommend being tested immediately.
“Helsinkians got tested actively during autumn and early winter and I want to thank everyone for that. However, the number of people being tested reduced significantly over Christmas and New Year even if the epidemic did not show any clear signs of dying out. The number of infections among the tested is still high”, says the Chief Physician of the epidemiologic operations, Sanna Isosomppi.
In December, up to 3,000 Helsinkians were tested daily (in the 10 days leading up to Christmas the average was 2,500 tests daily). The number of contacts through omaolo.fi and the Coronavirus helpline were about the same. These numbers have dropped by about half during the holidays.
“I encourage Helsinkians to get tested with a low threshold even if the symptoms are mild. We can cut the infection chains much faster with active testing and tracking. This is the key to fighting the coronavirus”, Isosomppi says.
You can get tested the same day by booking an appointment through omaolo.fi or calling the Coronavirus helpline, tel. 09 310 10024. The helpline is open daily 8–18. There are testing points around the city. The coronavirus symptoms are similar to a cold or stomach flu. Symptoms can be e.g. fever, cough, headache, nausea, diarrhoea, muscle ache, a sore throat, a runny nose, shortness of breath or loss of sense of smell or taste. People of all ages are instructed to be tested if coronavirus symptoms appear.
