Join us to create
the Helsinki story!

“The best thing about Helsinki is my own Helsinki that I’ve found by myself and helped to create,” says Helsinki-based actor, musician and hipster Elias Gould in his blog post on the Brand New Helsinki pages.

The pages are a tool in a process to brand Helsinki. The goals of the branding process are to crystallize Helsinki’s identity and to boost the city’s competitiveness. The brand will form the basis of Helsinki’s new marketing strategy. With a brand, Helsinki will be in a better position to compete for visitors, investments, major events and talent worldwide.

The branding team has defined several possible themes for the Helsinki brand story. The draft themes were formed on the basis of qualitative research lasting five months. Previous studies about Helsinki, a range of competitor analyses, in-depth interviews, workshops and surveys of the views of city residents, business representatives, academics and other stakeholders were  included. More than a hundred people in total were involved in the survey for the initial phase.
The project team now invites all citizens to assess the proposals and to join the work to refine them into one strong Helsinki story. The proposals are posted on the Brand New Helsinki pages at www.bnh.fi. Feedback to the proposals can be submitted to 30 November 2015.

You can give us feedback face to face: representatives of the branding team will be available at the Kamppi shopping centre on 18 November, 15–18, and at the Itäkeskus shopping centre on 20 November, 15–18. Outi Leppälä

Outi Leppälä, the manager of the branding project in the City of Helsinki marketing organization, stresses the importance of citizen participation. “The Helsinki story is written by all residents. Every Helsinki resident communicates thoughts about the city and feelings for the city in their everyday behaviour. If we like our city, others will like it too.”

The Helsinki branding team consists of city representatives and close partners, collaborating with the Kuudes Kerros strategic brand design consultancy. The work will be completed in 2016.The city marketing strategy work will help Helsinki to decide which themes, sectors and target groups form the focus of its marketing.
