Lux Helsinki 2016
"Lux Helsinki aims to be a winter urban festival, in which the whole city participates. It will feel more like a street event, since the secluded Old Church Park and compact Annankatu will be the key venues featuring a number of artworks and food outlets," says the festival's Artistic Director Ilkka Paloniemi.
The Light Festival Lux Helsinki will offer inspiring light artworks and a festival atmosphere at the darkest time of the year, from Wednesday 6 January to Sunday 10 January 2016. The most exciting light and media artists from Finland, France, Belgium and Canada will create artworks in Helsinki city centre. During the event, all light artworks will be on display each day from dusk onwards at 5–10 pm. Now being organised for the eighth time, Lux Helsinki is suitable for the whole family and entry is free of charge.
In 2016, Lux Helsinki's artworks will be on display along a new route, from the Ateneum Art Museum to Annantalo, while being focused around the Esplanadi Park, Bulevardi and Annankatu. The works will include installations such as Color Park in the Vanha Kirkkopuisto (Old Church Park), Cloud in Annankatu, and Valoleikkipuisto in Annantalo where you can participate in workshops on light-based themes.
In 2016, the festival will develop into an urban celebration featuring a wide range of attractions. The food on offer is just getting better each year – street food will be available at Senate Square and Annankatu. In addition, there will be greater emphasis on the festival's visitor experience and guidance around the events.
The Lux Helsinki festival is organised by the City of Helsinki. Päivi Meros, an Event Producer with Visit Helsinki, will coordinate the event on behalf of the City of Helsinki and Sun Effects Oy will be in charge of production.
