The Helsinki-based mega-event for startups and investors Slush is on a mission to encourage entrepreneurship. Zulfia Acar, 35, moved from Turkey to Finland six years ago. She is grateful for the opportunity for an independent life in Finland. She has just received information that she has been granted Finnish citizenship. “I’m a Kurd, and I miss my home country Turkey. But I understand Finland better and better, and I get along fine with Finns,” says Acar.

The Light Festival Lux Helsinki will offer inspiring light artworks and a festival atmosphere at the darkest time of the year, from Wednesday 6 January to Sunday 10 January 2016. The light event has developed into a large urban festival with street food and a wide range of attractions.

ChristmasChristmas Market

In December the colourful Christmas Market in the Senate Square welcomes visitors every day 4.–11.12 from 11 to 20. Delicacies, glühwein, traditional and modern gift ideas, a merry-go-round for children – and even a Christmas sauna bath in one of the old court yards in the Torikortteli quarters.
