Open tram Open trams were taken out of service in the 1940s for safety reasons, but they were brought back for the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. They were a big hit with passengers, giving them a chance to indulge in a bit of nostalgia or else take their first ride in an open tram. Extra services were operated during the Olympics. Fourteen extra trams ran along a temporary route from the Railway Square via Kallio to Käpylä. A temporary line was also built on Reijolankatu
