If you were potentially exposed, check your vaccination status

If you were at the potential exposure site – the lobby area of the first floor of the Kalasatama Health and Wellbeing Centre – at the listed time, we recommend that you check that your measles immunisation is up to date:

If you have previously had measles or you have received two doses of the measles or MMR vaccine, you are protected against measles.

Get the MMR vaccine as soon as possible if:

  • you have not received two doses of the vaccine and you have not had measles;
  • you are unsure about your immunity to measles; or
  • you have immune insuffiency.

To book an MMR vaccination appointment, call +358 40 542 9472. You should also call the number if you were accompanied by unvaccinated children when you visited the potential exposure site. The line will be open from 8.00 to 16.00 until Friday 2 August 2024. After Friday, you can contact your own health station. The MMR vaccination is free of charge to everyone.

What to do if you develop symptoms of measles

The first symptoms of measles are a high fever and respiratory symptoms. The measles rash appears a couple of days after the fever and normally lasts for about a week. The time from infection to when symptoms start to appear (incubation period) is usually between 7 and 11 days, but can be as long as 21 days.

If you are infected, symptoms will start by 19 August 2024 at the latest

If you develop symptoms consistent with measles, call your local health station and let them know that you have been exposed to measles. The health station will arrange for a sample to be taken for testing, if necessary.

Health station contact information

Outside office hours, call the Medical Helpline at 116 117 and tell them that you have been exposed to measles.
