The planning of the transport system in Helsinki city centre is about to begin. To support the planning process, the City of Helsinki is assembling a residents’ panel.

Aiming for smoother transport

The transport system plan for the city centre aims to develop transport as a whole, encompassing how people enter the city centre and move about there. The transport system looks at all modes of transport: walking, cycling, public transport, and passenger and commercial transport. The transport system plan will steer the more detailed transport planning for the city centre. It also aims to support the dynamism and comfort of the city centre.

Another goal is strengthening the experiences offered in the city centre, based on sustainable mobility. With the plan, the City aims for a situation where arriving and moving about in the city centre is smoother, the walking environment is more pleasant, and delivery and maintenance traffic best serve the needs of everyone operating in central Helsinki.

Join us in planning future transport!

We hope that panel members will express their opinions to help support the planning. The panel will focus on the walkability, pleasantness and attractiveness of central Helsinki. You do not need special knowledge of transport or other topics to join the panel. You are not required to live in Helsinki, either. As long as you spend some time moving around Helsinki city centre, you can join.

The panel will meet at Central Library Oodi three times in 2024: on 25 January 2024, 27 February 2024 and 20 March 2024 at 17.00–19.00. We hope that panel members are able to attend all three meetings. The meetings will be held in Finnish.

About 15 members will be chosen for the panel. All applicants will be informed of the results of the selection process before the holidays in December.

Apply for the panel by 30 November 2023.
