Who is eligible for the avian influenza vaccine?

The vaccine is recommebded for the following groups:

  • workers of fur farms, fur farmers and their family members
  • workers of poultry farms, poultry farmers and their family members
  • hen keepers and their family members
  • veterinarians working with fur animals, poultry or wild birds

Vaccination series to include two doses

The vaccination series consists of two doses. The second dose is given at least three weeks after the first. If you have previously received two doses of the avian influenza vaccine, a booster dose is not required. However, if you have only received one dose before, you now need a second dose.

Protection against serious illness

The vaccine protects against severe illness caused by avian influenza viruses and helps prevent the emergence of a pandemic. While the avian influenza situation in Finland remained calm in 2024, early signs in 2025 indicate that the situation may be changing.
