The building, located at Ensi linja 1 in Kallio, has been classified as having architectural, cultural and historical value.

Ensi Linja 1 is a renaissance revival-style building constructed of red brick and marked for preservation. It has been classified as having architectural, cultural and historical value. In connection with the alteration of the intended use, technical repairs will be carried out on the base floor, roof and facades.

The building will be converted for daycare use in a way that it can host a daycare centre, for early childhood education and pre-primary education, having a maximum of 252 places for children. Some of the building’s common areas will be available for residents and other operators to book and use in the evenings and at weekends outside the operating hours of the daycare centre. This will be taken into account in the planning of access routes and access control.

There will be a playground in the sheltered backyard of the building. Ilolanlehto next to the building will also be used as the daycare centre’s yard. The existing trees will be preserved.  There is plenty of natural park-like space in the yard area of the daycare centre, and there is even a place for sledging in winter.

The cost estimate of the project exceeds EUR 5 million, and the City Board has the authority to decide on the project.
