City to lease three plots at Nihti in Kalasatama through competitive tendering

The City of Helsinki will lease three residential blocks of flats at Nihdi in Kalasatama by means of an open call for tenders. Total permitted residential building volume of the plots is 8,800 m2, and an additional 300 m2 of commercial space may be built.

The plots must be used to build unregulated owner-occupied housing. 

In addition to the land lease, the winner of the call for tenders will be selected based on a one-off advance land lease payment or ‘entry fee’. The city will rent the plots to the bidder who offers the highest entry fee.

Lively housing construction in Kalasatama continues

Housing construction in Kalasatama started in 2010. At present, more than 10,000 people live in the area. Housing construction in Nihti started in the summer of 2022.

Transport links to Nihti will be improved in the coming years: the Kalasatama-Pasila tram line was opened in August 2024, and a Crown Bridges Light Rail connection and a pedestrian and cycling connection to Nihti will be built. The Crown Bridges connection will open in 2027.
