How would it sound to participate in a cultural event in Malmi, to exercise in a park in Meri-Rastila or to spend a nice summer day in a playground in Mellunkylä? Various activities have been planned for the suburban regeneration areas for this summer, of which everyone will surely find their own favourite.

All urban suburban regeneration areas are located within easy reach of good transport connections, so it is easy to come to the events by public transport.

We will carry out urban renewals until 2035 in cooperation with the residents of the areas.

Summer tips for suburban regeneration areas

It is possible to meet new people and find interesting things to do in suburban regeneration areas in the summer.  We organise excursions in the areas and keep playgrounds and youth centres open. In addition, we are involved in organising numerous events in parks, marketplaces and squares. Participation in the events is free of charge.

Here are a few examples of summer activities.

The Lukemattomat sadut fairytale sessions organised in cooperation between the Adult Education Centre and the City of Helsinki’s playgrounds invite seniors to the playground in the summer. The aim is to provide an opportunity for seniors to participate in the implementation of reading or singing sessions together with the playground instructor and children. At the same time, children’s literacy and reading skills are strengthened. The sessions will be arranged in June and July on weekday mornings from 10.30 am to 11.00 am or from 11.15 am to 11.45 am before summer meals in playgrounds. Elderly people’ park meals will be organised for a specific group on a small scale in Malmi and Kontula once a week.

Malmi

  • Barn dances will be arranged for the elderly at Ala-Malmi square on Wednesday 12 June from 12 noon to 4 pm.
  • The youth pop up café is open at Ala-Malmi square on 6-16 June and at Ylä-Malmi marketplace on 17-20 June.
