The persons next in line for coronavirus vaccination in Helsinki are 65–69-year-olds, i.e. those born in 1952–1956.
The vaccination booking service will open today, Wednesday 31 March at 14:00. You can make a vaccination appointment online at www.koronarokotusaika.fi/en/(Link leads to external service) or by calling the appointment booking line 09 310 46300.
The fastest way to book an appointment is to use the online service. The appointment booking number is available on weekdays 8:00–18:00. Information on the start of the vaccinations is also published e.g. in newspapers.
Vaccinations are being carried out at the vaccination points of Jätkäsaari, Messukeskus, Malmi and Myllypuro.
More age groups will be covered as more vaccine doses become available
Vaccines will be administered without delay as they become available.
The COVID-19 vaccinations of Helsinki residents aged 70 and above are still continuing. In Helsinki, 88% of people aged 80 and above have received their first jab. Of 75–79-year-olds and 70–74-year-olds, 84% and 51%, respectively, have been vaccinated.
The vaccinations of persons aged above 16 who are highly susceptible to severe COVID-19 due to an illness (risk group 1) are also continuing.
The booking of vaccination appointments for those exposed to severe COVID-19 due to an illness (risk group 2) will start next week, Wednesday 7 April, with older age groups receiving an appointment first. More detailed information will be provided later.
Director of Health and Substance Abuse Services Leena Turpeinen says that the vaccinations of 65-69-year-olds have been started because suitable vaccine doses are now available for this age group.
“We hope that all people scheduled for vaccination will actively attend their booked appointments. The COVID-19 epidemic will only stop once the majority of the population has been vaccinated,” Turpeinen says.
“New research results also indicate that the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines used in Helsinki are equally efficient against severe COVID-19. The efficacy against severe COVID-19 is almost 100 per cent,” Turpeinen says.
At the moment the City of Helsinki uses two different vaccines. The AstraZeneca vaccine is used for 65-69-year-olds. The Pfizer vaccine can be used for the vaccination of those aged 16 and above. Two shots of the vaccines are administered. The vaccine jabs will be administered at an interval of 12 weeks, in accordance with the National Institute for Health and Welfare’s recommendation. The appointment for the second vaccination is set in conjunction with the first vaccination. You may not choose the vaccine given to you.
