It is 82 years since the end of the Winter War on 13 March 1940. In Helsinki, commemorative events will be held on Sunday, 13 March in the form of laying of wreaths at the National Memorial to the Winter War in Kasarmitori at 9:00 and at Hietaniemi Cemetery at 9:30. Mayor Juhana
Vartiainen will attend the wreath ceremonies in both locations.
In addition to these memorial events, two memorial concerts will be held on Sunday in Helsinki. The first concert will be held during the day, starting at 13:00 in the Temppeliaukio Church. The Remembrance Day Concert will feature Taina Piira, soprano, Tuomas Hoikkala, saxophone, Janne Hovi, piano, Tapio Tiitu, organ and Waltteri
Torikka, baritone. The concert is hosted by Aarno Cronvall. The patron of the concert is archiatrist Risto Pelkonen. The programme costs €20 by pre-order, €25 at the venue. The concert is organised by Suomen Isovanhemmat ry association, veteran organisations, Lotta Svärd Foundation and other partners.
The second concert will take place at 17:00 in the Little Finlandia building. The “Suomen laulu” (Song of Finland) concert will feature the Viipurin Lauluveikot choir under the direction of Ilkka Aunu and the military band of the Southern Finland National Defence Training Association under the direction of Heino Koistinen. The concert ticket price is €30. The proceeds of ticket sales will be directed to veterans.
