City bikes are a popular way of getting around the city. In 2024, people in Helsinki took approximately 2.3 million journeys using city bikes. The contract period of the current city bike service ends after the 2025 season. This means that the city bike system has been operational for ten years! The aim is to introduce a new city bike system in spring 2026, creating a common, easy-to-use and affordable city bike service operating in several municipalities in the region. Helsinki aims to improve the service level of city bikes, in particular by improving the station network and increasing the number of bikes.
“Currently, the city bike station network in Helsinki consists of 347 stations. Any changes to the locations of the stations are planned for the 2026 city bike season. The wishes and views of residents and other interest groups offer an important insight for the planning of the locations of city bike stations,” says Head of Service Eva Lodenius from Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd.
