For 57 years, the City of Helsinki has celebrated the first baby born in Helsinki on the city’s birthday, 12 June. This year’s Helsinki Day baby was born to the Kuokkonen family, and arrived at four minutes after midnight.

- I would like to congratulate the whole family on their new Helsinki Day baby! I wish the whole family well, said Mayor Juhana Vartiainen when congratulating them at the Women’s Clinic.

The baby is a boy and he is called Benjamin. His weight was 4205 grams and height 51,5 centimetres.

The baby received a blanket made of organic cotton from Metsola’s Puppy collection as a gift from the city. Metsola is a Finnish children’s clothing brand founded in 2007, with roots in a family business in Oulu.

The tradition of congratulating the new Helsinki Day baby has been ongoing since 1965.
