We are looking for creative acts to be included in the Helsinki Day programme. The acts should be visible and audible across the city to delight the public on 12 June but without gathering people together. The application process is being launched online today, and the acts for the programme will be selected by public vote.
Helsinki Day, celebrated on Helsinki’s birthday on 12 June, is a fest for everyone in the entire city. It offers about a hundred free events across Helsinki every year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event took place entirely online last summer. This time we are asking people and organisations to come up with creative, impressive and COVID-safe Helsinki Day acts.
Helsinki Day acts can be related to arts, nature or enlivening the urban environment, for example – what is important is that as many Helsinki residents as possible get to celebrate the occasion in their hometown. The precondition for the Helsinki Day acts is that people need to be able to see, hear or experience them in the urban space but without it being a public event. The acts must also be safe, accessible, responsible and free for the public. The pre-selection process emphasises features such as the diversity of the audience, the accessibility of the acts and their locations in different parts of Helsinki.

Helsinki Day acts are our gift to the people of Helsinki, says Project Manager Emma Abendstein.
The acts that will fill the city on Helsinki Day will be selected by the public from the pre-selected acts. Public voting will start online after the application period closes in April, and the acts to be produced will be announced on the event website in May. The Helsinki Events Foundation is supporting the production of the acts with a total of EUR 100,000.
