Helsinki Mayor attends dialogue between EU capitals and European Commission in Warsaw

On Friday 24 January, Mayor of Helsinki Juhana Vartiainen will participate in a meeting between the EU capital cities and the European Commission. Warsaw is hosting the event because Poland holds the rotating EU Presidency as of January 2025.

Held every six months, the EU Capitals Mayors’ Meetings allow for a direct dialogue between the European Commission and the mayors of the EU capital cities.

The main theme of Friday’s event is “Secure, resilient, prepared – European cities in times of crises”. The discussions will focus on the importance of cities in strengthening civilian preparedness and readiness, as well as, more broadly, their role in the EU’s new Multiannual Financial Framework.

“On the issue of preparedness in particular, it is important that Helsinki can contribute to the discussion with its own best practices. We are an exceptionally pioneering city in Europe when it comes to this theme, as we have maintained a central role in and accrued decades of experience in safeguarding overall safety,” said Mayor Vartiainen.
