Malmitalo, which turns 30 this autumn, has always included versatile concerts in its repertoire, and this autumn is no exception. You can access the concert at an affordable price every week.

"Malmitalo is a rhythm music-oriented cultural centre. We offer high-quality gigs and concerts in a first-class concert hall environment, where every audience member has a good view of the stage and the listening experience is top-notch,” says Malmitalo’s cultural producer Tuukka Palonen.

“We have just updated our light and sound equipment. Our halls are ready for more than 200 events in the autumn, of which about 70 are gigs.”

Malmitalo's birthdays are naturally celebrated with music. The Saimaa band will lead visitors to a party atmosphere with two concerts (Wednesday, 18 September, sales will end on Friday, 20 September). On Thursday, 19 September, Tampo, Jaakko Laitinen and False Money will take the stage. On Saturday, 21 September, Mikko Perkoila and his Vinkulelu orchestra will perform in the family concert.

Our aim is to serve the needs of different audiences in a versatile way and give room for new voices,

Three hardy music series: indie, jazz and roots

Malmitalo's three high-quality music series – A la Malmi, MalmiJazz and the evolution of roots music – will provide an opportunity to see rising stars and all-time favourites.

"For a long time, we have presented jazz, roots and blues music. The A la Malmi series is a more recent foray. It brings fresh air and alternative tunes to the traditional concert hall environment. Our aim is to serve the needs of different audiences in a versatile way and give room for new voices,” says Tuukka Palonen.

A la Malmi is a club series at Malmitalo that showcases the most interesting, fresh and upcoming Finnish music and gives audiences the opportunity to listen to leading independent musicians. This autumn, Piia Viitanen (solo, Friday, 6 September), Lyyti (Friday, 27 September), Pykäri (Friday, 25 October) and Pekka Nisu and Ville Leinonen (Friday, 15 November) will perform at the A la Malmi clubs.

MalmiJazz, on the other hand, will include different genres of jazz music. This autumn, Elifantree (Thursday, 12 September), Varre Vartiainen Organ Freemen! feat Timo Lassy (Thursday, 7 November) and Virta & D.O.P.A (Thursday, 5 December) will perform in the series of gigs

"The Evolution of Roots Music" series will present the styles of roots music played across different eras. In the autumn, the series will proceed to the rautalanka, rock n' roll and beat music that emerged in the 1960s. The series will feature The Sounds (Wednesday, 4 September), Tinos (Wednesday, 9 October) and Room Full of Hendrix (Wednesday, 6 November).

International names and world music

Guests from the United States will also perform at Malmitalo in the autumn. Ward Hayden & The Outliers, who combine country, classical rock and modern Americana, will perform on Thursday, 26 September. The blues-inspired trio GA-20 will take the stage on Tuesday, 29 October, and multiple Blues Award nominee Tad Robinson will do so on Wednesday, 30 October.

The programme also features world music. Hüseyin Korkankorkmaz will share the rich Anatolian musical tradition with you (Thu, Sept. 26) and the chamber ensemble Aurinko will play Argentine music (Tue, Oct. 1). The Mongolian Batsükh Dor band will present the Tuvan throat singing tradition on Friday 8 November as part of the Etnosoi! festival. The children's Etnosoi! concert will feature the Brazilian artist Adriano Adewale (Sunday, 10 November).
