Fixed stepped terraces will be built on both sides of the street. The cafés and restaurants in the street can lease the terraces once the construction is completed.
Metro’s waterproofing to be replaced
During the project, the current waterproofing of the metro’s superstructure will be replaced and some underground municipal infrastructure such as cables and pipes will be relocated. The superstructure is located at the southern end of the street.
The street will be paved with stone bricks and the structures of the terraces will be made with massive granite slabs. Four new trees will be planted in the northern part of the street and tables with chairs will be placed on the street for leisure. Trees cannot be planted on top of the metro’s superstructure in the southern part of the street.
An 8-meter-wide area in the middle of the street will be reserved for walking, bicycling and maintenance vehicles.
In future, only pedestrians and bicycles will be allowed on Siltasaarenkatu, and maintenance access and access to properties is only allowed from the northern end of the street. Maintenance and delivery vehicles can access the southern part of the street through Toinen linja and Porthaninkatu.
Properties and the metro can be accessed throughout the construction
All properties, street-level shops and the metro can be accessed throughout the construction. However, there may be changes to routes during the work.
The work will be carried out in stages and some of the work phases overlap. Siltasaarenkatu will remain open throughout the project. The work will start with the construction of a reinforcement slab on the area between the metro entrances.
More details on the work phases and access routes will be provided separately to the properties, residents and street-level shops in the area.
More information on the stages of the construction will be posted on the project’s website in March. The contractor is E.M.Pekkinen Oy.
