In Helsinki, the school year of the Finnish- and Swedish-langauge primary and lower secondary schools and general upper secondary schools ends on Saturday 3 June, and general upper secondary school graduates are celebrated on the same day. The operation year of pre-primary education ends on Friday 2 June.
Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute, Stadin AO, holds a graduation ceremony on Friday 2 June. The school year of the Helsinki Upper Secondary School for Adults also ends on the same day. At Tölö Gymnasium Upper Secondary School, the last day of school for the Swedish-language general upper secondary school for adults is Tuesday 30 May.
This spring, a total of 2,030 students are graduating from the City of Helsinki’s general upper secondary schools. Students can graduate from Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute on a rolling basis, and this spring there are approximately 2,400 graduates.

The city’s general upper secondary schools have published the names of the new general upper secondary school graduates on their websites. The data are published for graduates who have not declined to have their names published.

New school year starts in August
Education Division advisory services will move to new premises in the Kalasatama district at Työpajankatu 8 in the summer. Due to the move, the advisory services will be available during the summer period 1 June–4 August 2023 by phone, email and via the feedback system. Interpreter service with phone calls is available.
After the summer holiday, the school year of the city’s Finnish- and Swedish-language comprehensive schools and general upper secondary schools begins on Thursday 10 August. The autumn term of the Helsinki Upper Secondary School for Adults begins on Friday 25 August, and the general upper secondary school track for adults at Tölö Gymnasium Upper Secondary School begins on Monday 28 August.
As a rule, students admitted to Helsinki Vocational College and Adult Institute in the joint application procedure and in the spring’s rolling application procedure start their studies on Wednesday 2 August. Continuing students’ studies proceed in accordance with their personal competence development plan.
