Helsinki is ranked sixth in the list of sustainable cities published by Corporate Knights. The Sustainable Cities Index measures the environmentally sustainable development in 50 cities around the world.

Corporate Knights is a media, research and financial information products company based in Toronto, Canada, focused on promoting an economic system where prices fully incorporate social, economic and ecological costs and benefits.
Corporate Knights has released its first Sustainable Cities Index to assess how well cities around the world are responding to the challenge of climate change. From now on, the index will be published every summer. The index, which is mainly based on public data, includes 50 cities around the world that assess ecologically sustainable development based on an indicator. More than half of the world's population lives in cities, and cities play a key role in mitigating climate change.
The three cities considered to be the most ecologically sustainable were Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen.
