City planning will be launched in the western part of Merisatama with the aim of establishing a new park and a pavilion building for recreational activities for city residents. The building could house a café, for example, with the possibility to spend time indoors or on the terrace overlooking the sea view.

The area is currently open grassland, except for a parking area in the southern part, which is used for boat storage in the winter. The area is bordered by tree lines.

The trees and features of the area are to be preserved as they are. The eastern part of the area will also be kept as an open park area to preserve the important street axis of Laivurinkatu that ends with a sea view. The promenade across the area will also be preserved. According to the plan, parking spaces and winter storage facilities for boats would be removed.

Reference plans have been prepared to support the project and to illustrate the possibilities that the new detailed plan could include in the future. You can comment on the plans in the Kerrokantasi service(Link leads to external service) until 13 September. The survey gathers the views and wishes of Helsinki residents about the development of the area and also ideas for the future of Maritime Helsinki.

You can also take part in an open-for-all walk around the area with the planner on Monday 2 September 2024 from 5 pm to 6.30 pm. Meeting before the walk at the address Merisatamanranta 9 in the planning area.
