At its meeting on 23 January 2025, the Youth Sub-Committee of the Culture and Leisure Committee decided on a new grant of EUR 200,000, targeted at preventing segregation. The grant application period will open on Monday 17 March 2025. A Teams information event on how to apply for the separate grant for youth activities will be organised on Wednesday 5 March 2025 from 17.00 to 18.00.

With the separate grant for youth activities, the city supports projects that aim to prevent segregation development between population groups and residential areas. The grant will support projects that promote recreational opportunities and positive encounters, especially in the urban renewal areas of Malminkartano, Kannelmäki, Malmi, Mellunkylä and Meri-Rastila. The projects also aim to support the work ability of young adults. The main target groups of the grant are young adolescents aged 9−12 years, young adults aged 18−24 years and girls with an immigrant background. The grant can be awarded to both associations and youth action groups.

The budget for the separate grant for youth activities is EUR 200,000 and the grant can be applied for twice a year. The first application round will start on Monday 17 March 2025, when the application form will open in our grant application page at avustukset.hel.fi. The deadline for applications is Sunday 6 April 2025 at 23.59. More information on the exact timing of the second application round in the autumn will be published on our website and in the Youth Services Partner Newsletter.

Preventing segregation and promoting the well-being of children and young people are key priorities for the city and for the Culture and Leisure Division this year. In addition to the separate grant for youth activities, the sports and culture services also allocate their grant funding to preventing segregation. The total grant funding in this division to prevent segregation is EUR 700 000 for the current year.
