The City of Helsinki has been supporting Ukrainian cities in various ways since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression. As the war continues, there is a constant need for aid to alleviate the damages and losses caused by the military actions.

During the autumn of 2024, the divisions of the City of Helsinki have surveyed various materials and equipment that are suitable for donation to Ukraine. The donation includes old vehicles and other material.

“The need for aid in Ukraine concerns all aspects of society. Sending concrete aid to Ukraine also serves as an unwavering message of our commitment to cooperate with Ukrainians. Ever since the war broke out, Helsinki has offered support in many ways, helping both Ukrainians who have arrived here and Ukrainians who have remained in their home country,” said Mayor Juhana Vartiainen.

The Ministry of the Interior Department for Rescue Services coordinates civil aid to Ukraine via the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. As with earlier donations Helsinki has made, the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for delivering the materials to Ukraine.
