During the ongoing municipal sector strike, some libraries, museums, cultural centres, indoor sports facilities and youth spaces are open. Itäkeskus swimming hall is also open.

During the ongoing municipal sector strike, some libraries, museums, cultural centres, indoor sports facilities and youth spaces are open. Itäkeskus swimming hall is also open. Out of the 37 libraries of the City of Helsinki, 15 are open during the strike in a restricted manner. The libraries of Etelä-Haaga, Herttoniemi, Jätkäsaari, Kallio, Kontula, Laajasalo, Lauttasaari, Munkkiniemi, Oulunkylä, Pasila, Pitäjänmäki, Paloheinä, Roihuvuori and Viikki are open. Maunula Library is open on Wednesday, 4 May and on Thursday, 5 May at 9:00–16:00. Library-specific opening information can be found on the helmet.fi website. Mobile libraries are also driving their routes.

Central Library Oodi is not open, but you can return loans using the return machine in the library’s lobby. The material due dates falling on the period of 3–9 May 2022 have been moved forward so that the due dates will fall on the period of 10–13 May 2022 in a staggered manner. After the strike, it will be possible to pick up reservations that had been due to be picked up during the strike. Most library events have been cancelled.

Two cultural centres are open

Out of the eight cultural centres of the City of Helsinki, two are open during the strike. The aim is to carry out all the activities of Cultural Centre Caisa as planned. The premiere of the play It Just Depends On Who You Get is on Thursday, 5 May and Open Art studio for Toddlers also takes place on 5 May. Many other reservations of the smaller facilities are also taking place. In the gallery of Caisa, Keke Leppälä’s exhibition Modern Moves will open on Friday, 6 May.

Vuosaari House is open, but all performances have been cancelled or moved forward. The gallery of Vuosaari House is open, and the free-of-charge workshops take place on Wednesday, 4 May at 16:00 and 17:00. Regular weekly classes of operators providing basic education of art are also held as planned. The book café Pokkari is open. Vuosaari Library, located in Vuosaari House, is closed during the strike.

Annantalo, Kanneltalo, Malmitalo, Maunula House and Stoa are closed during the strike and their performances and events have been cancelled or moved forward to a later date. The Savoy Theatre ticket sales is open normally, and the Mother's Day concert with Waltteri Torikka will take place on Sunday, 8 May. However, Maunula House Library is open on Wednesday, 4 May and Thursday, 5 May from 9:00 to 16:00. Access to the library takes place via S-Market. In addition, Stoa’s restaurant Skutta serves customers and access to the restaurant takes place via the outdoor patio.

All tickets purchased are valid for later performances

Performances of the cultural centres and Savoy Theatre cancelled due to the strike will be moved forward or cancelled entirely. When an event with ticket sales has been moved forward, the tickets already purchased are either valid as is for the new date or they are refunded. Ticket refunds must be applied for using this link within approximately one month from the date of the performance.

Villa Hakasalmi is open

Villa Hakasalmi is open according to its normal opening hours. Other museums Helsinki City Museum, Tram Museum, Worker Housing Museum and Burgher’s House are closed. The Helsinki Art Museum, HAM, is also closed during the strike.

Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra performs as planned

Most outdoor sports fields and some indoor sports facilities are open

Most outdoor sports facilities are open, but their changing rooms are mainly closed and maintenance is limited.
Out of the outdoor sports facilities, the Velodrome, Eläintarha sports field, Pukinmäki and Vuosaari sports fields are closed during the strike.

Itäkeskus swimming hall is open normally – Swimming Stadium to open on 15 May

As regards swimming halls, Itäkeskus swimming hall is normally open. Pirkkola swimming hall is closed, but the reserved slots of swimming clubs are held on weekdays at 15:00–23:00 and on weekends at 7:00–23:00. The swimming halls of Yrjönkatu and Jakomäki are closed. The Swimming Stadium will open on 15 May 2022.

Out of the multi-purpose halls, Töölö sports hall is normally open, and Liikuntamylly is open at 15:00–22:00. As regards the football halls, Pallomylly is open. In terms of the other sports halls, the Maunula, Ruskeasuo, Herttoniemenranta halls, Oulunkylä gyms and Laajasalo ball hall are open.

During the strike, the sports hall of Latokartano is open on weekdays at 15:00–22:00 and during the weekend at 8:00–22:00, and the gym in the Yrjönkatu swimming hall is open according to the booked slots.
The Rastila Camping site is open on Thursday, 5 May at 8:00–15:00 and on Friday, 6 May at 13:00–22:00.

The marinas are open.

In self-supervised schools, the regular times for club sports go ahead as normal.

The cancelled week will be credited to season tickets with the length of the strike being added to season tickets.

Supervised sports take place normally, except in Kamppi, Kinapori and Jakomäki. The cancelled classes can be found on the supervised sports’ websites.

The slots of space reservation customers, such as sports clubs, also take place normally in the school gyms. Booking of sports facilities is normally open.

Some youth centres are open. Information on open youth centres is available on the Youth Helsinki website.

Space reservations made via Varaamo are cancelled

Space reservations made via varaamo.hel.fi are cancelled when the facilities are closed. Paid space reservations during the strike will be refunded to the party concerned.
