Rest areas to be built and the routes of the valuable rocky area to be improved in the Hallainvuori nature reserve

Two rest areas will be built on the scenic rocks at the western edge of the Hallainvuori nature reserve. At the same time, the usability and durability of the path from north to south will be improved with mountain biking in mind.

The path across the nature reserve marked with blue diamond shapes in the terrain will be improved by reinforcing the wettest sections of the path with gravel. Ground stairs will be built on the severely eroded slope at the northern edge of the nature reserve to reduce erosion. The safety of the route for pedestrians and mountain bikers will be improved with features such as overtake facilities by the stairs along the route.

The rest areas will be built on the “climbing rock” at the southernmost point of the Hallainvuori nature reserve. One will be located closer to the middle of the area, along the path marked with blue route symbols.

The procedures will be carried out in the spring, summer and autumn of 2025. The work may cause temporary inconvenience to users of the area and the surrounding recreational routes. The work will not involve felling trees.

Hallainvuori features a wide variety of forest types, from rocky and heath forests to grove-like heaths and groves. The swamp types found in the area consist of swamps formed into depressions on top of the rock and wooded mires near the bottom of the cliff. The highest points are located more than 50 metres above sea level.

The rocks provide impressive views over the fields of Viikki in the west and Vanhankaupunginlahti in the south-west. The slopes descending westwards are nearly vertical in some places. The forests in the western section of the area provide animals with shelter.

The work is commissioned by the City of Helsinki Environmental Services, and it will be executed by Stara. The planned work procedures are based on the management and use plan for the Hallainvuori nature reserve.
