Signage of Helsinki’s outdoor swimming pools being updated – share your opinion and influence the design!

Helsinki’s iconic outdoor swimming pools, the Swimming Stadium and the Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool, are historical locations where many a Helsinkian and person visiting Helsinki goes to swim and spend time in from spring to autumn. Now, the City wants to honour these two outdoor swimming pools originally designed for the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki with new signage consistent with their architecture and Helsinki’s brand image.

The signage needs to serve all kinds of visitors and guide them intuitively and clearly. The City has narrowed down the design of the signage to two visually distinct options, one of which will be implemented at both the Swimming Stadium and the Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool.

To help with the final selection, the City is now organising a survey asking residents to share their opinions on the understandability and clarity of the two designs and their suitability for the indoor and outdoor facilities of the Swimming Stadium and the Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool. The service design office Kuudes will be responsible for the new sign design.

The survey is open from 18 to 30 October 2023. Those who respond to the survey and leave their contact information will be entered into a prize draw for three serial tickets of 10 sessions each usable at outdoor and indoor swimming pools and sports halls in Helsinki.
