Siilitie Pavilion in Herttoniemi – New Location for Early Childhood Education

The City of Helsinki is acquiring a new temporary education and early childhood education pavilion, which will be located on the plot next to the Herttoniemi Sports Park at Siilitie 14. The location facilitates the introduction of new early childhood education spots in Herttoniemi. It also serves as a temporary facility for several years for several facility projects.

More places early childhood education are needed in Herttoniemi, and they will be available in the new facility. The Myllykoti day-care is the first user of the temporary facility while their own building is under construction.

Preparatory work for the construction site is planned to begin in the autumn of 2024, which would make the premises available in the autumn of 2025. The schedule will be specified later.

The detailed plan for the construction site entered into force in 2018. The plot is currently unbuilt with a small woodland. The aim is to retain as many of the trees on the plot during construction, but some of them must be removed to make space for the building, driveway and yard.

According to the preliminary plan, the Siilitie Pavilion will have approximately 2,400 k-m2 of space on two floors.

There are no suitable free facilities for day-cares or schools in the area, which is why we have decided to rent  the new facility that is currently under construction (for ten years).

The decision to implement the project will be made in the autumn of 2024. A decision on requirements is discussed by the Education Committee. Initially the Pavilion's procurement decision will be brought to the Urban Environment Committee's Buildings and Public Areas Sub-committee. The final decision on the matter will be made by the City Council.
