To improve the water supply, Lapinlahdenkatu will be blocked as a construction site for a distance of about 30 meters, starting from the Mechelininkatu intersection. A water pipeline and two storm water inlets will be dug in the middle of the street, so the end of Lapinlahdenkatu will be closed to motor vehicle traffic as of 4 February.

The guided detour runs through Runeberginkatu and will increase travel time by about five minutes. Excavation work will not change routes for pedestrians and cyclists, but they are directed to pass by the construction site.

Construction work began at the crossing of Mechelininkatu and Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu, from where the construction site has progressed towards Lapinlahdenkatu, where construction work will also take place. The work is not related to the pipeline failure in the area on 1 February but are part of the pre-construction of the former Maria hospital area for the future centre for growth companies in the area.

The end of Lapinlahdenkatu will be closed for approximately three weeks.

The broken water pipe on Mechelininkatu will have no impact on the construction schedule

The old water pipe broke in the vicinity of the construction site on Mechelininkatu on Saturday 1 February. Floodwater caused the Maria area construction site to collapse and broke a few protective pipes. The incident will not cause any delays to the work site schedule, and the damage has already been repaired.
