Helsinki’s cultural centres will offer fun activities and great music for many tastes and for people of all ages on the Night of the Arts on 15 August.
Annantalo’s Night of the Arts for the whole family will be full of hopes and dreams. Over the course of the summer, Annantalo’s summer artist Jukka Kääriäinen has asked visitors about their thoughts about the future and composed a musical work called Hopes and Dreams based on them. The piece will be performed live starting from 16.30. There will also be workshops where you can build curious gadgets and find out more about superpowers. The Outsider Art Festival will start at Cultural Centre Caisa on 15 August. The festival celebrates equality and diversity and gives a voice to creators of outsider art. A group exhibition called Reality will open at Caisa Gallery. It contemplates what the world might look like from an outsider artist’s point of view. The opening of the exhibition will take place on the Night of the Arts on 15 August from 15.00 to 17.00, after which the gallery will be open until 22.00. The event is open to all. The opening speech will be given by Paavo Arhinmäki, Deputy Mayor of Helsinki for Culture and Leisure. The opening evening will also include the screening of a short film and music. The Espa Stage will feature Janne Masalin’s one-man band, after which the stage will be taken over by Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L together with Laura Moisio, Ismaila Sané and Kielo Kärkkäinen. The concerts are part of the Etno-Espa city festival’s programme. The evening will be concluded by the captivating Vilma Jää with her pop music, which combines folk tradition and synthetic sounds. At Kanneltalo, you can be enchanted by the beauty of music and nature when Kaiun kajo, a music group that combines various folk music traditions, performs on the August evening. The Malmi Summer of Events offers concerts and other activities for the whole family, without age limits, until the end of August. The Night of the Arts will feature the music groups Pikku Papun Orkesteri, Modem and Grande Mahogany, among others. Cultural Centre Stoa’s traditional Elojuhla event will be full of enchanting music, with UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra performing with Pikku Papun Orkesteri, as well as Elena Mîndru & Juha-Pekka Mikkola, as soloists. The Night of the Arts at Vuotalo will be a celebration of world music, dance and joyful togetherness. The evening will feature performances by Delado International and Dan + Claudia Zanes. At the Story Sharing Café in the lower yard of Vuotalo, you can share and listen to stories of everyday life. We will speak at least English, Finnish, Swedish, Arabic, Pashto, Spanish and Russian. The Night of the Arts will kick off the varied autumn season of Helsinki’s cultural centres, which will be full of music, theatre, dance and exhibitions for Helsinki residents of all ages.
