What is this all about? Hanasaari power plant has been heating the homes of Helsinki residents for decades. Now the handsome building faces another kind of future. But what will its future be like? Has it already fulfilled its role, or could it still have something to offer to Helsinki residents? Answers to this question are being sought in the ongoing visioning exercise for the Hanasaari power plant. City-owned energy company Helen stopped energy production in Hanasaari’s coal-fired power plant on April 2023. The City of Helsinki's goal is to preserve the power plant building and find new uses for it.

The vision work, which will be completed at the end of September, will provide guidelines for the development of the power plant and the neighbouring area and lay the groundwork for an upcoming design competition, which will ultimately determine the future use of the power plant. The vision work will also be utilised in the planning of the temporary use of the power plant.
