Tuohiaukio and Kehruuaukio in Malminkartano to be renovated – resident event on 22 August

Tuohiaukio and Kehruuaukio in the northern part of Malminkartano will be developed into more pleasant squares. Planning themes include squares as meeting places and play areas for children, overall comfort and a sense of safety. The area’s planning officers invite residents to a walking tour and an open planning workshop to be arranged on 22 August.

New activities, such as seating areas and playground equipment, are planned for the presently underused squares in the current construction plan. After a walking tour to gather residents’ views, needs and wishes, a planning workshop will be held to discuss the development of the squares and assess the preliminary planning alternatives proposed by the city. The aim is to find out what the residents themselves would like the squares to be used for when the implementation of the plan begins.

The planning themes also include greenery and planting, as well as furniture such as bike racks, canopies, benches and litter bins. The renovation will also include the restoration of walls, fences, railings, pathways and stairs. The renovation is expected to be implemented in 2025.

An open resident evening will begin at Tuohiaukio at 5.30 pm. We will move to Pihkapuisto primary school after a walking tour at around 6.15 pm. The resident evening will end at 7.30 pm. There is no advance registration for the event.
