Kino Caisa will show non-mainstream movies at Kallio

Cultural Centre Caisa continues working for an equal Helsinki, this time also with a movie programme. Kino Caisa will bring movie experiences to Kallio that may perhaps not be seen elsewhere.

Cultural Centre Caisa at Leipätehdas in Kaikukatu promotes diversity and inclusion through arts and culture. Cultural Centre Caisa’s new initiative this autumn is Kino Caisa that will start movie showings on Tuesday 1 October.

Kino Caisa’s programme will highlight people, stories and storytellers who are often invisible in mainstream movies. Multilanguage movies or those from different language areas also highlight professional movie-makers who represent minorities.

“I hope that Kino Caisa’s movies will be thought-provoking and offer new perspectives on humanity and the world. I also hope they will increase understanding of the diversity of humanity,” says Johanna Rissanen, Producer, Cultural Events at Caisa, who is responsible for Kino Caisa’s programme.

In the future, there will be two movie showings every Tuesday, one at 2 pm and the other at 6 pm.

“Everyone can choose the time that best suits their own rhythm of life. Hopefully, the low-priced tickets of seven euros will also bring the movie experience to more people,” says Rissanen. Tickets can be purchased from Lippu.fi and from Caisa’s information desk. The language of the movies is English, so all of them are either spoken or subtitled in English.

The October programme, which is curated by movie event connoisseur Diego Ginartes, will include the movies You Resemble Me, Costa Brava, Lebanon, Bacurau and Prism. They include topics such as racism, refugees and mental health. They have not gone through the inspection process for wide-distribution movies, which is why they have an age limit of K-18. Therefore, the age limit is not a question of the sensitivity of the subjects. More movies will be added to Kino Caisa’s programme during the autumn.
