Application period for summer jobs
The application period for the City of Helsinki’s summer jobs starts at the beginning of the year. The number of available summer jobs is highest at the turn of January and February, and new open positions are posted on a weekly basis, so be sure to keep an eye on the open jobs page.
Summer employees are hired for the care industry, as park employees, for various types of office work, as planning interns, as construction assistants and for sports facility maintenance work, among other roles. The City needs students and trained personnel to cover annual leave in the social services and health care sector in particular.
The best part has been the colleagues and the tasks. I had enjoyable tasks that I liked, and all my colleagues were nice, and the team spirit was great.
Summer jobs for 16–20-year-olds
The City of Helsinki wants to provide as many young people as possible with their first summer job experience. The City has approximately a thousand summer jobs available for young people every year, including summer jobs for 16–17-year-olds and the summer jobs of the Siisti kesä! project for 16–20-year-olds.
The majority of summer jobs for 16–17-year-olds can be applied for by all young people, who have completed primary and lower secondary education and not turned 18 by the start of the summer job. In addition to these positions, the Siisti kesä! project offers approximately 270 summer jobs for 16–20-year-olds.
Siisti kesä! project summer jobs for 16–20-year-olds
Helsinki City Construction Services (Stara) and the Culture and Leisure Division’s Sports Services offer summer jobs to young people without prior work experience. The approximately 270 summer employees hired as part of the project help clean parks, squares, kerbsides, sports venues and public beaches. There are also team leader positions available for those interested in developing managerial skills. You can apply for a team leader position after turning 18 years old. The position involves supervising the work of younger summer employees. Having a driving licence and being able to drive team members to different locations is considered an advantage for team leader positions. The application period for the Siisti kesä! project coincides with the application period for young people’s summer jobs in early February.
The application period for summer jobs for young people, who have completed primary and lower secondary education and the summer jobs of the Siisti kesä! project begins on 3 February 2025 and ends on 24 February 2025 at 16:00. We want to offer summer jobs to as many young people as possible. We strive for accessibility and diversity in recruitment and hope to receive applications from all young people interested in working for the City. The work can be tailored to correspond to the young person’s skills and physical functional capacity.
The experience was good, the atmosphere was excellent, and I never for a moment doubted whether I belonged to the work community.
