The plan aims to preserve Fredrikintori Square as an open urban space and develop its functionality while respecting the historical values of the square and its existing trees. The renovation will add vegetation and seating areas, replace the paving and lighting, and upgrade municipal infrastructure and event technology.
The plan is based on a previous concept plan, which has been modified based on feedback from residents and the City of Helsinki’s objectives. Among other things, the feedback received from the residents has contributed to the preservation of all the existing trees at Fredrikintori Square, except for one in poor condition. In contrast to the concept plan, market activity and planting areas have been rearranged to better accommodate terrace operations, market sales and leisure activities. New bench areas have been added to the market area for enjoying the space.
You can view the draft plan until 21 January
The draft plan will be presented to residents at Snellman Primary School on 15 January from 16:30 to 18:30. There will also be time for discussion. The draft plan will also be available for viewing from 8 to 21 January 2025 at hel.fi/suunnitelmat.(Link leads to external service)
The necessary changes will be made after the draft has been made available for public comment. The plan will be made available for public comment later in the spring, during which residents will still have the opportunity to give feedback on it. The goal is for the construction works at Fredrikintori Square to begin at the end of 2025.
